Mashpee –Community Health Center of Cape Cod has raised more than $1.7 million for the expansion of its Mashpee location which is now under construction. An additional $1.537 is still needed to complete the $3.25 million Building for the Future capital campaign.

Mashpee –Community Health Center of Cape Cod has elected three new members to its Board of Directors.

Mashpee – On February 6, 2012, Maura Weir, regional manager for the Youth Suicide Prevention Project, received the Leadership in Suicide Prevention Award from the Massachusetts Coalition for Suicide Prevention.

Mashpee – Community Health Center of Cape Cod has launched a mobile dental service that brings a range of dental and support services into the community where they are urgently needed.

Mashpee – Community Health Center of Cape Cod recently received a grant for $10,000 from BJ’s Charitable Foundation for the Adolescent Care Program. This funding will allow the Health Center to provide comprehensive and affordable primary care, mental health, and dental care for its adolescent and teen patients.

Mashpee – Community Health Center of Cape Cod recently received a grant for $43,050 from Tufts Health Plan Foundation. This funding will support the Case Management for Healthy Seniors Program, which the Foundation funded the previous year as well.

Mashpee –With patients, providers, staff, donors, and elected and town officials on hand, Community Health Center of Cape Cod broke ground for a 22,000 square-foot expansion to its Mashpee location.

Mashpee – Suicide Prevention Day is observed around the world on September 10. On the Cape and Islands, the day will be commemorated with an awareness and fund-raising event to support the Cape and Islands Youth Suicide Prevention Project.

Bourne – Students from four area high schools and youth organizations on the Cape were trained recently to address youth suicide risk factors and prevention methods as part of the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) New Hampshire’s Connect Project. This training was sponsored and funded by the Youth Suicide Prevention Project, a program of Community Health Center of Cape Cod

Mashpee –The Youth Suicide Prevention Project is seeking survivors of suicide loss to participate in a survey to help identify resources and support for people in the region who have lost someone to suicide. This survey asks questions about difficulties with practical issues and social issues as well as resources respondents may have used for support.

Mashpee –Community Health Center of Cape Cod and Mashpee Public Schools are joining forces to offer a free, five-part workshop for parents or caregivers of children ages 9 – 14. The aim of Guiding Good Choices is to promote healthy youth development and prevent teen alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use.

Falmouth – For every person who dies by suicide, there are numerous survivors left behind to cope with the tragic loss. On Monday, January 31, the Youth Suicide Prevention Project will present Sally Spencer-Thomas, PsyD, who will speak on “The Aftermath of Suicide: Honoring Loss and Healing Together”. Dr. Thomas is an internationally recognized clinical psychologist, mental health advocate and survivor of suicide loss. In 2004, she lost a brother to suicide and has dedicated her life to helping family members and communities deal with the aftermath of suicide.

Mashpee –Alice Cook, LICSW, MBA, LADC-I has been appointed Director of Behavioral Health at Community Health Center of Cape Cod. Ms. Cook is a clinical social worker and alcohol and drug counselor.

Mashpee – Denise Parker-Bridges, RDH, MHA; Dental Office Manager at Community Health Center of Cape Cod, has earned certification as a Public Health Dental Hygienist.

Mashpee – Community Health Center of Cape Cod held its Annual Meeting on November 17 and elected three new members to the Board of Directors: Patricia Avila, Falmouth; Gary Dellaposta, Mashpee; and Ellen Dent, Pocasset.

Mashpee – October is Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. To educate area women about the health services and social supports that are available in the region, Community Health Center of Cape Cod will present “An Evening of Women’s Wellness” on Tuesday, October 27. The program will take place from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at the Health Center at 107 Commercial Street in Mashpee.

Falmouth – The Massachusetts Medical Society has recognized two Falmouth physicians for outstanding service. K. Robert McIntire, MD was honored as the Senior Volunteer Physician of the Year for his commitment to volunteerism and dedication to sharing experience and medical expertise. William M. McDermott, Jr., MD received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his lasting contributions to the practice of medicine and service to the Society.

Falmouth – David Plouffe, campaign manager for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, will offer an insider’s perspective at a benefit event for Community Health Center of Cape Cod. The event will take place on Thursday, August 6 at 6:30 PM at the Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth.

Falmouth – Community Health Center of Cape Cod will offer a program on the effects of drug and alcohol abuse on the adolescent brain. The program will also include information about how to obtain help for a child in need, as well as a personal account of one man’s journey to addiction and back. The program will take place on Thursday, June 25 at 6:30 PM at Falmouth Public Library on Katherine Lee Bates Road in Falmouth.

Falmouth – Starting June 25, Community Health Center of Cape Cod staff will be present at the Falmouth Service Center on Thursday mornings from 10 AM to noon to provide insurance enrollment assistance for veterans. The Service Center is located at 611 Gifford Street in Falmouth.

Bourne – Community Health Center of Cape Cod has named James P. McGuire, MD and Lisa K. Tager, LICSW to the clinical staff of the Family Resource Center for Behavioral Health.

Bourne – The Verizon Foundation has awarded Community Health Center of Cape Cod $10,350 for the purchase of additional licenses for the Health Center’s electronic medical record (EMR) system. The EMR enables the Health Center to edit, store and retrieve patient information safely and efficiently.

Mashpee – As children enter adolescence they, and their families, face a time of growth, change, and developmental and social challenges. With three-year funding totaling $275,000 from The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation, Community Health Center of Cape Cod has established the Family Resource Center for Behavioral Health for families with at-risk children and youth up to age 23.

Mashpee – The Cape and Islands top many lists for Massachusetts’ most beautiful scenery, charming villages and favorite vacation destinations, but its rank as the region with one of the highest youth suicide rates in the Commonwealth is a concern of many. Recognizing this as a community-wide problem, the Cape and Islands Community Health Network (CHNA 27) and Community Health Center of Cape Cod have created the Cape & Islands Youth Suicide Prevention Project.

Falmouth - Community Health Center of Cape Cod and the Falmouth Public Schools are pleased to announce the launch of HealthyFalmouth.org, a unique website dedicated to improving the health of the Falmouth community.

Mashpee – Community Health Center of Cape Cod has been awarded $40,000 from the office of Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley to provide wider access to prescription medications for low income, uninsured and underinsured individuals in Massachusetts. The assistance will be based on patients’ income, health and prescription type.

Mashpee – It has been more than a year since Dar Williams has played on Cape Cod, and now, the popular singer/songwriter is coming to Mashpee. Ms. Williams will perform a benefit concert for Community Health Center of Cape Cod’s women’s health services and teen clinic on Saturday, April 4 at Mashpee High School

Mashpee – David S. Tager, MD has joined the staff of Community Health Center of Cape Cod as Chief Medical Officer. In this role, he plans and directs all aspects of the Health Center’s medical policies and programs and oversees the quality improvement process. He will also see patients.

Mashpee – Three clinical providers have joined the staff at Community Health Center of Cape Cod.

Mashpee –Community Health Center of Cape Cod is now enrolling eligible patients into a new program that emphasizes prevention, early detection and screening services for certain types of cancer, including breast, cervical, prostate, and colorectal, as well as heart disease and stroke.

Mashpee – The Edward Bangs Kelley and Elza Kelley Foundation has awarded Community Health Center of Cape Cod $5,000 in support of its new oral health program. Since its opening in July 2008, more than 800 people have enrolled in the Marion Jordan Center for Dental Health, a three-chair dental clinic at the Health Center’s location in Mashpee.

Mashpee – Community Health Center of Cape Cod has opened its third site, in Bourne. The new office is located at 123 Waterhouse Road, off MacArthur Boulevard. The approximately 2,000 square foot office, in the new Paesano Place building, has the capacity for five exam rooms, a mental health counseling room and small lab drawing station. The Health Center expects to provide 4,000 patient visits a year at the Bourne site.

Mashpee –TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation has contributed $10,000 to fund Community Health Center of Cape Cod’s newest initiative – oral health.

Mashpee – The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation has awarded Community Health Center of Cape Cod a three-year grant of $275,000 for implementation of the Family Resource Center for Behavioral Health. This service will assist families with children with mental health issues and/or at risk for substance abuse and other risky behaviors.

Mashpee – Karen Gardner, Chief Executive Officer of Community Health Center of Cape Cod, has been elected to the Executive Board of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers. Ms. Gardner was elected by representatives of the 10 community health centers in the League’s South Region, an area that includes Cape Cod, Brockton, Fall River, New Bedford and Quincy. She will serve a two-year term.

Mashpee – Melonie Kelly, a resident of East Falmouth, has been named Director of Clinical Services at Community Health Center of Cape Cod. In this role, she will be responsible for directing nursing services and case management. She will also review clinical operations to achieve improved integration of all the Health Center’s services and efficiencies in operations and oversee the health center’s new community health worker program.

Mashpee, MA –Community Health Center of Cape Cod Health Information Manager Katy O’Connell was awarded a Certificate in Community Health and Community Health Center Management from Suffolk University in Boston.

Mashpee – John Mancini, DDS, has joined Community Health Center of Cape Cod as Director of Dental Services. He is currently developing program guidelines and hiring staff for the new dental service, which is expected to start in July. Once the program begins, he will oversee all aspects of the dental services that are provided at the Health Center.

Mashpee – Community Health Center of Cape Cod has welcomed three new providers to its staff.

Mashpee – Beginning June 4, Community Health Center of Cape Cod will offer health insurance enrollment and application assistance on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 to 7:30 PM at its Mashpee location at 107 Commercial Street. Assistance is also available Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM. An appointment is not necessary.

Mashpee – The Board of Directors of Community Health Center of Cape Cod has named Karen L. Gardner as Chief Executive Officer.

Falmouth –On the heels of the release of her 11th album, “Watch the Sky”, singer-songwriter Patty Larkin will perform a benefit concert for Falmouth Family Planning on Friday, April 11 at the Lawrence School in Falmouth.

Mashpee – Lisa M. Taylor, MD, Medical Director at Community Health Center of Cape Cod has been awarded recertification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).

Mashpee – Cape Cod Free Clinic & Community Health Center has a new name: Community Health Center of Cape Cod. The name change comes at the same time that the staff at the Health Center is preparing to see patients in its newly constructed facility in Mashpee.

Mashpee – Cape Cod Free Clinic & Community Health Center has welcomed a new physician to its staff. Anna Hallemeier, M.D., board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics, is seeing patients at the Health Center’s office in Mashpee.
