Welcome to the website of the Family Resource Center for Behavioral Health, a Cape Cod resource for clinical services and support for children, adolescents and their families. These services, coupled with the Health Center’s primary care, help the entire family achieve the best possible health and well-being.
We recognize that as children and their families enter adolescence, they face a time of growth, change and developmental and social challenges. To help young people weather this period and reach young adulthood with health, safety, good relationships, and achievable aspirations, a strong support system is needed - at home, school and in the community. The Family Resource Center was established to provide this support.
Our goals are twofold:
- To provide behavioral health services, including child psychiatry, to children, adolescents and families
- To strengthen the community’s ability to support adolescents and families; and to prevent and decrease risky behaviors
The staff at the Family Resource Center includes James McGuire, MD and Lee Burwell, LMHC. Dr. McGuire is a child psychiatrist with many years of experience caring for children and adolescents with behavioral health needs. In addition to the Family Resource Center, he is also on the staff at Gosnold/Thorne Counseling Center.
Ms. Burwell , a licensed mental health counselor, has extensive experience working with teen mothers and families. Prior to joining the Health Center, she worked at Falmouth Human Services and in private practice. She also teaches parenting classes for the Coalition for Children and Bringing Baby Home classes at Falmouth Hospital.
Dr. McGuire and Ms. Burwell are supported by a caring and skilled staff who work in multi-disciplinary teams to meet the primary and behavioral health needs of our patients.
